The Local Area
There are two country parks within a few miles of Mold. Moel Famau Country Park is named after the mountain Moel Famau which, at 1,818 feet above sea level, rewards you with outstanding scenic views. The park incorporates over 2,000 acres of the Clwydian Hills and boasts Bronze Age burial mounds, ancient standing stones and the remains of three Iron Age hill forts; Moel Fenlli, Moel-y-Gaer and Moel Arthur. Discover walks and nature trails for all abilities in Loggerheads Country Park, 67 acres of wonderful parkland. The most celebrated industrial archaeological feature in the Park is the ‘Leete’ – a watercourse that once operated the water wheels of several mines along the Valley. As well as a working corn mill there is a Visitors’ Information Centre and a café. Three miles west of Mold you will find The Clwydian Range, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), offering spectacular scenery for climbing, cycling and many more exciting sports and activities. Try horse riding or walking along the ancient fortifications of Offa’s Dyke or the lesser known Wat’s Dyke. Many transport options make travelling in and around Mold easy. Bus services cover the whole of the North Wales area and the road network is excellent. By train you can spend the day in Manchester or Liverpool or simply relax on the beach, with car parks at the mainline train stations of Flint, Chester and Hooton and both Chester and Shrewsbury operating Park and Ride facilities.
